CMO 111: Daniel and the Roadside Moment

Image
Illustration Summary: A quiet morning light filters through the stained‑glass windows of a small Catholic church, scattering soft blues, reds, and golds across the wooden pews. In the middle of the sanctuary sits Daniel Cruz , a middle‑aged man with gentle lines on his face and the look of someone who has lived enough life to know he doesn’t have all the answers. He leans forward in the pew, elbows resting on the back of the one in front of him. His hands are clasped against his forehead—not in defeat, but in a kind of honest surrender. His eyes are closed, and for the first time in a long time, he isn’t trying to hold himself together. He’s simply letting himself be seen . Behind him, the crucifix hangs above the altar, illuminated by the flicker of votive candles. The soft glow reflects off the gold of the tabernacle, casting a warm halo around the scene. The church is empty except for Daniel, but it doesn’t feel lonely. It feels like a moment suspended between heaven and e...

CMO 110: Who I Am is Not As Important As Who I Am!

Image
"Let's Coffee Break!" Hey there, Coffee Breakers! Now, before you get any grand ideas, I don’t expect you to be long-standing fans of this show or members of some exclusive coffee club—I just like the sound of it. Honestly, my last attempt at an episode sounded more like a robotic script-reader than an actual person, so I scrapped that version and decided to give it another shot—this time, talking to you live and unscripted. So, let’s dive into today’s Coffee Break together! -- Hey there and welcome back! I truly hope life is treating you well, and that you’re dedicated to loving God (yes, faith is a big part of my life), as well as striving to be an amazing neighbor—because aiming for “great” really is better than just settling for “good” (shout-out to Fr. Mike Schmitz for that inspiration). Let’s make sure we’re not just doing good for others but also for ourselves, and living out the dream God has set before us. No worries, I’m not about to start preaching here...

CMO 109: Redirection

Image
What I Do... Something struck me this morning, a reality that brings me peace in a strange sort of way: I am not important in the grand scheme of things. My sense of self doesn’t need to be propped up with empty compliments or affirmations. I can live with that. Years ago, I dreamed of becoming a well-known motivational speaker, believing that the greatest gift I had was my ability to speak and inspire others. I poured myself into that dream, only to find that every step forward was met with setbacks, disappointments, and closed doors. "Let's Coffee Break!" This morning, I realized something that brings me peace: in the grand scheme of things, I'm not that important. I wasn’t destined to be the next Zig Ziglar, Dr. Padilla, Rev. Carlos, or even Mr. Padilla the teacher. I wasn’t going to be “Honey Love” as a husband, an ‘80s underwear model, a mid-’70s high school tennis champion, a journalist, mystery novelist, actor, playwright, or a proud USC graduate. Not ach...

CMO 108: Heartfelt "Thank You" Birthday Letter

Image
A Heartfelt Birthday Letter of Gratitude to our God, my family, friends, St. Thomas More parish family, Bishop, Priests, and Deacons. Show Time: 14m, 12s Listen on YouTube: https://youtu.be/AGzdYgJBOPc Introduction: There comes a moment in every life — often quiet, often unexpected — when the heart pauses long enough to look back with gratitude and look forward with hope. As I reflect on my 64 years of life, I find myself overwhelmed not by what I have accomplished, but by what I have received: mercy I did not earn, love I did not expect, and blessings I did not always recognize at the time. This letter is my offering of thanks — first to God, who has carried me through every season, and then to the people who have shaped my journey: my family, my friends, my parish community, and the priests and deacons whose witness has revealed the tenderness of Christ. It is my way of saying thank you for the second chances, the healing, the belonging, the laughter, the lessons, and the l...

CMO 107: “Looking Back at 2025 — And What I’m Hoping For in 2026”

Image
There’s something sacred about pausing at the end of a year — especially when you’ve lived enough life to appreciate the quiet moments as much as the loud ones. As a Baby Boomer, I’ve learned that reflection isn’t just nostalgia; it’s a way of honoring the journey, acknowledging God’s faithfulness, and preparing my heart for what comes next. So today, I’m sitting down with a cup of coffee and giving myself permission to look back on 2025 with honesty, gratitude, and a little humor… and to look ahead to 2026 with hope, intention, and a childlike spirit. This journal entry is my way of capturing the lessons, the shifts, the surprises, and the quiet graces that shaped me this year — and the dreams I’m carrying into the next. -- Insert Intro -- December 27, 2025—Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dear Journal: Today I am sitting here with a warm cup of coffee, the kind that fills the room with a soft, comforting aroma, and I am thinking about the year that is almost behind me. 2025. Wh...

CMO 106: Post-Christmas Message

Image
Let’s Coffee Break! Hello, Friends! You might notice that today’s “Let’s Coffee Break Daily” has a fresh new header. This morning, I thought, “Why not try something different?” After all, it’s the day after Christmas. The light from the Lord, which broke through the darkness, is just two days old—so let’s embrace it! We could all use a little encouragement and hope right now. That’s the story behind the change. -- Christmas Morning My Christmas morning Mass at St. Thomas More in Tulsa was truly unforgettable. Before the service started, I strolled around the “Our Lady De Los Lagos” Shrine—though I haven’t yet stepped inside, the peaceful grounds set the tone for the day. I joined fellow musicians to fine-tune our voices, guided by our amazing Choir Director for the special Christmas music. One of the highlights was meeting Deacon Ken, whose “Saintly Sips” reflections always inspire the congregation through the bulletin, newsletter, and parish website. He greeted me war...

CMO 105: The 2025 Christmas Letter

Image
🎄 Christmas Letter to My Friends Listen on YouTube Click Here . Dear Friends, Merry Christmas! Today is a big day — the day we celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ, the One who stepped into our world not with fanfare or force, but with humility, tenderness, and love. Christmas reminds us that God comes close, not in power, but in vulnerability and presence . And that changes everything. As I look back on this year, I’m struck by how deeply God has been at work in my life — sometimes loudly, but more often in quiet, unexpected ways. This has been a year of learning, stretching, and rediscovering what truly matters. I’ve been reminded again and again of the gift of friendship — the kind that listens, encourages, and walks beside you even when the road gets uneven. I’ve also been reminded that life is richer when we choose service with love , when we practice faith with conviction , and when we embrace humility as a way of life rather than a momentary posture. Good neighb...
